A story of life, food, conversation and sharing. This book is a diary of a very productive and enjoyable period of my life, 1985 to 1995. A story of life, food, conversation, and sharing with family and friends. As I write this Introduction, I am acutely aware of how time has changed many things. I am seventy-six, and many of my friends are in their eighties. Many people are currently isolated from their families. My wife Elaine is in Milan, a city under lockdown, with all that entails. Thankfully she is well and with her beloved sister who lives there. As measures to curb Coronavirus render us isolating at home, I find myself reflecting upon what I have appreciated throughout my life, what I have valued. This book is a celebration of those things; food, wine and social interaction have always been fundamental to my pleasure, I see that even in isolation, they are vital to my well being. Possibly by the time that this book is published, we will have gone back to our usual way of life. Perhaps our lives, and our way of life, will be changed irrevocably. But what will remain is the pleasure that we take in sharing food and drink, and the desire to connect through that shared experience. We are desperate to reconnect.
